Imade it eight minutes hiding in the bathroom.

It would’ve been fine if Thor hadn’t noticed his phone was missing. The bathroom door didn’t lock, so he wrenched it open and found me holding his phone. I should’ve hidden it in the cabinet or something, but it felt like my lifeline, and I didn’t want to let it go.

He yanked me up by the arm, and I yelped. “The fuck are you doing in here with my phone?”

“I told you mine was dead, and I need to get home.” My voice was high and pleading; all pretenses of being brave had abandoned me.

He dragged me into the front room and tossed me onto a couch. “You a fuckin’ cop?”

“No! I just really need to get home.”

He smiled cruelly. “So you called your fiancé to come pick you up? How do you think that’s gonna go?”

“No, not my fiancé! I belong to someone else.”

Skepticism marked every line of his face, threatening violence if I didn’t come up with a better answer fast. He snatched me by the jaw. “Doesn’t matter, darlin’. He ain’t here, is he?”

There was a commotion outside, but Thor didn’t seem to notice. Not until Reaper strode through the front doors with six bikers trailing him.

“Theodore,” Reaper barked as he sauntered in, shirtless as usual but wearing an outfit that would’ve made Jareth the Goblin King proud. He’d left his long hair unbound, and it cascaded over his shoulders like an eighties romance heroine’s locks. His knee-length black kilt hung so low on his hips, it was obscene. He wore biker boots and leather gloves that he slowly pulled off one finger at a time and tucked into the back of his waistband. His painted black fingernails, heavy eyeliner, flowing hair, and all the jewelry he wore—from his lip ring to his thumb ring to the silver torque that adorned his bare chest above his nipple rings—gave him a feminine edge that clashed with Thor’s overblown masculinity. “I see you’ve found my errant brat.”

Thor rounded on him. “It’s Thor, motherfucker.”

Reaper’s eyes flashed with amusement. “Ah. I see you’ve learned my real name too. I did rather enjoy fucking your mother. Celia, right?”

Thor roared and took a swing at Reaper, who leaned left so fast, it looked like Thor’s fist was moving in slow motion as it swung harmlessly past Reaper’s head. Then he knocked Thor on his ass with an efficient sweeping kick that hooked behind Thor’s knee.

It shouldn’t have been surprising—he’d always had the lethal vibe of someone who could handle himself in a fight, but I’d assumed it was from behind the barrel of a gun.

The six bikers pulled their weapons and aimed them at Reaper, who casually reached down to help Thor up. I didn’t miss that he’d immediately drawn all the attention and violence from me to himself.

Reaper’s gaze raked up my bare legs, cocking an eyebrow at the jacket before turning back to Thor. “You kept something of mine out of trouble tonight, and you have my thanks.
